There’s a common misconception that you only need to visit your dentist when you’re hurting. The reality is that we need to intervene with the necessary care before it gets to that point! At your biannual visits, we conduct a comprehensive oral exam to ensure oral cancer, tooth decay, gum disease, and the like are detected and treated early on. We also clear away plaque and tartar to help keep your teeth and gums healthy, reducing the likelihood of dental problems developing in the future.

What to Expect During a Dental Checkup

Your dental checkup will be with Dr. Jeramiah Paylor, our dedicated Arvada dentist. If you’re a new patient, he will get to know you a bit better and ask you a few questions about your dental history. If you’re a long-time patient, then he will catch up with you before seeing if you’ve been experiencing any abnormal dental symptoms. He’ll take a look at your X-rays, complete an oral cancer screening, and examine your teeth and gums, looking for signs of trouble along the way. If he notices anything concerning, he will bring it to your attention and create a custom treatment plan to address it.

Your dental cleaning will be with one of our talented dental hygienists. After updating your notes and walking you through what they’ll be doing, they will gently clean your teeth, removing plaque and tartar in the process. Along the way, they may share any recommendations they have based on what they are seeing, like specific oral hygiene products that you should use at home. The final step of the cleaning is flossing and polishing your teeth. After that, you’ll be done!
